A Study on Matrimonial Sites in India

Title: A Study on Matrimonial Sites in India
Authors: Dr. S. Rama Gokula Krishnan, et al.
Abstract: The two major objectives of the present study are 1) to understand the socio-economic and demographic profile of a
sample of individuals who are currently registered on a matrimonial site. 2) To discover the differences in partner
preferences of men and women on matrimonial sites, apart from noting their experience of being on matrimonial sites.
A total of 103 respondents currently registered on a matrimonial site, took part in the study. The present study has led
to two major findings- 1) Both male and female respondents are more dissatisfied than satisfied with the services
provided via matrimonial sites. 2) Arranged marriage is taking a modern turn and has assumed some of the
characteristics of modern dating sites. There is a growing concern about the business like nature of arranged marriage
through matrimonial sites. There is excessive importance being given to the materialistic facets at the cost of other
important variables such as personality, compatibility, and future plans. There is also a need to take greater efforts to
filter fake profiles on matrimonial sites. Finally, the fact that people who had previously opted for paid membership are
no longer willing to opt for it is an indication that the paid upgrades are not offering a satisfactory experience for the
members. The need of the hour is for matrimonial sites to reduce their intense focus on economic variables and
consider focusing on the other important factors that can help individuals find compatible partners.

Title: The Long Road to Recovery: An Investigation into the Health and Wellbeing of Older Adults in India who Survived Covid-19 and its Implications for Social Work Practice
Authors: S. Rama Gokula Krishnan, et al.
Abstract: The pandemic has undoubtedly affected almost every aspect of life for people around the world. However, the most
affected are older adults living in developing countries like India. In fact, the second wave of the pandemic in India, was
the most devastating wave so far. Now that the worst appears to be over, there is a need to study the impact of the
pandemic on the wellbeing of older adults recovering from the virus in the country. Hence, the aim of the present study
is to examine the long-term impact of covid 19 on older adults, its connection with wellbeing, and the role of social
workers in their recovery. A total of 203 older adults from India took part in the study. The results show that the
majority of the respondents have poor wellbeing and have been more frequently plagued by chest pains, fatigue, and
isolation, ever since they became infected. Moreover, respondents who are female, those with co-morbidities, and are
suffering from other problems such as frequent chest pains, fatigue, and feelings of isolation, have lower levels of
wellbeing. The implications of social work practice have also been discussed in the full paper

A Scale to Measure the Effectiveness of Casework (CES-10)

Title: A Scale to Measure the Effectiveness of Casework (CES-10)
Authors: Dr. S. Rama Gokula Krishnan, et al.
Abstract: Purpose: One of the challenges in social casework is the measurement its effectiveness, and the
challenge mainly arises due to the lack of a standardized tool. The present research is aimed at
filling that gap through the development of a scientific scale to measure the effectiveness of
casework practice. Method: Data were collected from 202 former casework clients across 22
organizations in India. The collected data were then used to carry out both exploratory and
confirmatory factor analyses, Discussion: The ten-item Casework Effectiveness Scale (CES-10)
has been found to be highly valid and reliable (Cronbach Alpha: 0.956). across multiple types of
validity and reliability indicators. Apart from making a wide range of studies possible, the tool
also opens the door to future randomized controlled trials, to help test and build scientific
evidence for social casework practice. CES-10 is now publicly available and free to use.

Child Sexual Abuse and Wellbeing Among LGBTQ+ Individuals: The Role of Family in Healing.

Title: Child Sexual Abuse and Wellbeing Among LGBTQ+ Individuals: The Role of Family in Healing.
Authors: Dr. S. Rama Gokula Krishnan, et al.
Abstract: The present study was undertaken to understand the prevalence of child sexual abuse and its
association with the wellbeing of a sample of LGBTQ+ individuals in India. A total of 206
respondents took part in the study. The WHO-5 wellbeing scale developed by the World Health
Organization was used to assess the wellbeing of the respondents. The prevalence of child sexual
abuse among the respondents was high (46.1 per cent). In general, the level of wellbeing of the
respondents was found to be below average. Among those who had experienced child sexual abuse,
the majority of the respondents were cisgender women. Cisgender women respondents were also
more likely to have a much lower mean rank of wellbeing compared to the other groups and
similarly, respondents who identified as lesbians were also found to have a lower level of wellbeing
compared to respondents who identified themselves as bisexual, pansexual, and gay. Other
associated factors have been discussed in the full paper. The role of family in supporting and
helping the individuals heal, has also been discussed in detail. There is a need for families to be
more empathetic towards the victims.
